Defending Premier League champions Chelsea are very close to make their third big signing of the summer. According to Bild, the Blues have agreed a fee close to £17m to sign the 20-year-old Ghanian international from the Bundesliga side.
Chelsea were interested in Baba since a long time as Jose Mourinho wanted a left back who could cover Cesar Azpilicueta. They had bought Filipe Luis last season from Atletico Madrid but due to lack of first team opportunities he left the club this summer to rejoin the La Liga side.
Bundesliga club Augsburg were initially not keen on selling their talented youngster. It was reported earlier that Baba Rahman won’t be sold for low cost. But now if media reports are to be believed the deal is almost sealed and Rahman is on his way to join Chelsea in the coming days.
Baba Rahman had joined Augsburg in 2014 for €2.5m. Now the deal will be finalised with Chelsea for £14.1 million with add-ons totalling another possible £3.5m.
Jose Mourinho desperately wanted a defender desperately. The first match of the new season of Premier League showed us how vulnerable Chelsea defense is this time. They conceded twice after taking the lead. Other than Baba Rahman, the club was also linked with Everton’s John Stones. If Baba Rahman deal materialises that would possibly end their pursuit for Stones.
