Chelsea have emerged as the front-runner to sign Torino centre-back Nikola Maksimovic. According to reports in Italy, the defender is not enjoying life with the Serie A outfit and has grown increasingly frustrated in recent times.
The Serbian international has represented Torino in 76 matches since making his debut for them back in 2013 but the 24-year-old is now being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Italian daily Gazzetta Dello Sport reported that the English giants are ‘in the front row’ for bagging the services of the defender after he skipped training with his current club on Friday.
Reports are also suggesting that Maksimovic has switched his mobile phone off, halting all contact with Torino, after the Italian club stopped Maksimovic to make a move to Serie A rivals Napoli.
With Kurt Zouma injured, the Blues go into a fresh campaign with only John Terry, Gary Cahill, and Branislav Ivanovic and as their newly-appointed manager Antonio Conte is desperate to bolster his backline, a deal could materialise soon.
The London-based club has also seen several offers being rejected for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and it’s now believed that they could go all the way for Maksimovic instead.
