Chelsea fans are preparing for John Obi Mikel’s exit from the club as Turkish club Fernabache have been heavily linked with the Ghanaian’s signature. With Mikel’s departure in sight, Chelsea are preparing a £12million offer for Tottenham’s Moussa Demebele to replace him.
Express have reported that sporting director Giuliano Terraneo was in London to negotiate a deal for Mikel. This leaves Chelsea with very little option in their central midfield area.
Apart from Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic, there are no recognized central midfield players at Stamford Bridge. Last season, Kurt Zouma was played in several games underlining Chelsea’s lack of depth in their midfield.
Why Moussa Dembele over Axel Witsel and Alex Song?
Those who have followed Chelsea transfer rumors lately, they will know Blues have been linked with a move for Axel Witsel and Alex Song.
Witsel and Song are more accomplished defensive midfielders but a move for Moussa Dembele is seen as the more viable option since Witsel is available for £24million while there is big line of clubs waiting to sign Alex Song.
Dembele is a player who likes to go on powerful runs from midfield and is equally accomplished on the ball. Mourinho is looking for an able midfield partner for Matic and it seems Dembele would seamlessly fit in to Chelsea’s play as Tottenham deploy a similar playing style with a 4-2-3-1 formation where Dembele operates from midfield.
Chelsea and Jose Mourinho have made defensive midfield signing their key priority and Tottenham Hotspur’s Moussa Dembele is eyed as a potential replacement for the departing John Obi Mikel.
