According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are planning a £22 million for Wofsburg’s star defender Ricardo Rodriguez and are keen to finalize the deal before the transfer window closes.
The 23-year old is arguably one of the best left-backs in Germany alongside Bayern Munich’s David Alaba. His stellar performances an year ago has helped Wolfsburg in their historic season where they finished as runners up in Bundesliga and clinched German Cup.
The Swede is also a set-piece taker which could add more options to any side he plays. The Blues are in search of a new left-back after letting Abdul Baba Rahman leave on loan to German club Schalke this summer.
Chelsea are looking to sign a strong left back as they want to switch César Azpilicueta to right-back position and Ivanovic could be used both as full-back and a centre-back which would add more flexibility to the Blues’ defense.
Ricardo Rodriguez still has three years left in his contract with Wolfsburg and has drawn interest from a host of clubs across Europe which include Arsenal, Roma and Real Madrid.
The Blues were earlier interested in Liverpool’s target Jonas Hector but with the defender signing a new contract this month, it looks highly impossible to lure him away from FC Koln.
Rodriguez has played over 150 times for Wolfsburg, scoring 20 goals, since joining from FC Zurich in 2012.
