Chelsea ready for DEADLINE DAY action, final summer signing expected on Wednesday

Chelsea have decided to pursue Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij after Antonio Conte failed to sign kalidou Koulibaly.

The new Blues boss has long decided to bring in a new defender to boost his squad heading into the new season, and appears to have his heart set on snapping up a Serie A centre-back.

According to Sport Italia (via Eurosport) Conte is now keen on signing De Vrij who is valued at €25m plus performance-related bonuses.

It is believed Chelsea are willing to exercise patience stretching to the transfer deadline day for de Vrij.

The Dutchman caught the eye of current club Lazio after a string of promising performances during the 2014 World Cup. De Vrij currently has a contract with the Serie A giants that runs until 2018, as reported by Sport Italia.

However the strong centre-back’s development was hampered in 2015 when a knee ligament injury ruled him out for the remainder of the 15/16 campaign after just two matches.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is planning a significant assault on the transfer window before it closes after being handed a massive £140m war-chest to strengthen his squad.

The Blues have already added two marquee signings in N’Golo Kante from Leicester City and exciting Belgian attacker Michy Batshuayi, along with bringing in Portuguese goalkeeper Eduardo.

But the Italian manager is determined to bolster his squad even further as he seeks Premier League title glory in his first season in at Stamford Bridge.
