Manchester United have always been the frontrunners to hijack German hitman Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich, but The Guardian reports Chelsea are also showing interest in Muller.
As Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is desperately looking to ignite the Blue’s title defending campaign, the English paper claims he is considering Muller who already has 20 goals this season, as a potential replacement for out-of-form Diego Costa.
Jose Mourinho’s side have had a disastrous campaign so far while their current batch of attackers is struggling to score at the moment. Diego Costa, Loic Remy, Falcao, all the Chelsea attackers have failed shockingly in this campaign, goals from the midfield also don’t come.
Especially this one area where goals are not coming from midfield has been a major concern for the Portuguese boss, and that is what Mourinho wants from the stylish lethal attacker like Muller if Chelsea manages to sign him in the upcoming winter transfer market.
However, Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has warned Thomas Muller not to switch a move to the Premier League and has requested him to stay with Bayern Munich for the rest of his career. In the meantime reports from Germany claim that if Chelsea manages to place a mouth-watering offer worth more than the £75m United earlier offered Bayern Munich for Muller back in the summer, Bayern would be ready to business.
Liverpool are also said to be interested in signing the German maestro, so a possible bidding war between three of the Premier League giants could begin in January.
Muller has been included in an extensive list of potential targets in the summer, although Mourinho earlier expressed his opinion that the club will not go into any transfer business in January as he “doesn’t deserve” to have new players, but the continuous failure of his attacking line has made things worse to find a solution as soon as possible.
On the other hand, the Blues are right now struggling to offload another flop star Radamel Falcao. Chelsea have the Colombian striker for a season-long loan, but Mourinho think Falcao is surplus to the requirements at present. Although, his club Monaco, don’t want to take him back as they have no plan to pay his excessive wages for the remaining of the season and ironically Chelsea cannot find any club willing to take a risk with the player who had a flop show at Old Trafford and now at Stamford Bridge.
