Chelsea are set to complete the £8 million capture of Asmir Begovic this week according to Telegraph.
Begovic is expected to seal a move to Stamford Bridge this week after the transfer fee for the Bosnian shot stopper has been agreed between the two clubs.
Sources at Stoke admit “there is a deal to be done” and the only delay has been over Chelsea deciding which player to loan out as part of the deal.
Chelsea’s opening offer of £6 million was rejected last Monday but the clubs have continued dialogue and the move should go through this week.
Mourinho’s squad will fly out to America for their pre-season tour on July 15 and the Portugese mastermind wants the Bosnia international fully integrated into the squad before then.
Begovic has been targeted as a replacement for Petr Cech who joined Arsenal for £10million and is determined to move on, despite the prospect of being No. 2 goalkeeper behind Thibaut Courtois.
Begovic is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s number 1 goalkeeper and played 41 games for the European nation.
Chelsea will be based in Montreal on the tour and face three games against New York Red Bulls, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
Chelsea have already singed Colombian striker Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco with a option to buy after one season.
Chelsea will look to retain the Premier League title next season with Falcao and Begovic signed and will also look to impact at UEFA Champions League also.
Stoke are hopeful about signing “Swiss Messi” Xherdan Shaqiri on a club record £12 million deal.
But Shaqiri is reluctant to leave Italian giants who are building a quality squad this season with Kondogbia and Miranda signed.
But Stoke remain optimistic of luring the Switzerland international to the Potteries and will continue talks this week.
