According to latest reports, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has set his sights on Real Madrid’s centre half Raphael Varane and will officially bid for the young defender in the coming weeks.
Varane is believed to be unsettled at Bernabeu as the competition for the places have increased recently. The French International have a contract with Real Madrid till 2020 but reports suggest that after Pepe’s new contract extension Varane is worried about his future.
A move to Chelsea would make the cornerstone for their defense as Terry is currently 35. The 22-year old would provide a long term replacement for Terry at Chelsea and will be given a very high importance by Mourinho.
Varane is a young prodigy who have drawn interest from various big clubs in Europe including Bayern Munich and Manchester United. The Real Madrid representatives are set to meet the young defender and would like to discuss his future but Mourinho believes that he could get Varane to Stamford Bridg this summer.
The player’s ability to win aerial duels will be an asset in Premier League as it has more physicality involved than in La Liga. The player managed to get more appearances this season due to the unavailability of Ramos and Pepe due to injuries.
Chelsea are reportedly preparing a £35.8million bid which would be enough to let Real Madrid release the player.
