The winter transfer window is coming to an end and as always we have our finger on the pulse when it comes to the latest rumours and speculation. Here is a round up of the most interesting Chelsea news of the day.
Daily Star reports, Alexandre Pato has reportedly passed the medical at Chelsea and is expected to complete the signing tomorrow. The 26-year-old Brazilian striker will leave his current club Corinthians on a loan deal until the end of this season. However, Chelsea will have the chance to sign him permanently in the summer for £15million if Pato manages to prove his worth during his loan spell. Chelsea will have to pay the entirety of his wages, said to be just around £35,000-per-week, over the loan period.
Since Mourinho’s departure, the Blues remain unbeaten under caretaker boss Guus Hiddink as Diego Costa rediscovered some of his lethal power of late, but the struggling Premier League champions still want some morale-boosting inclusions, along with Pato, to try for a realistic assault on the top four. The Mirror claims Chelsea are still interested on Premier League’s leading scorer Jamie Vardy, and would be ready to offer Loic Remy to Leicester City as a part of the deal for the 29-year-old English striker.
Chelsea have rejected Gary Cahill’s request to let him go despite the defender’s increasing frustration as he has been left out to warm the bench in recent times. He now thinks that lack of competitive football might cost him his place in England squad at this summer’s Euros. Liverpool over the past few weeks have become favourite to lure the veteran defender away from Stamford Bridge, according to a report from Mirror.
They have started negotiations with Real Madrid to sign Dani Carvajal this January, according to Fichajes. The 24-year-old right-back hasn’t been able to hold on to his regular place at the Bernabeu this term since the summer arrival of Danilo from Porto. However, Chelsea will face a tough challenge to secure his services after the Spaniard penned a five-year deal last year. Carvajal has only played eight La Liga matches this season and could be tempted to make a switch for more game time.
However, Chelsea might lose two of their biggest stars at the end of this season. If Belgian newspaper HLN‘s report is true then a mixture of poor results, a dressing room conflict and failing to land Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge have put a serious doubt over the future of Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois. The report states, Hazard could leave for €100m with Real Madrid favourite to sign him, while Courtois may look for another club if Chelsea miss out on Champions League.
Meanwhile, the Blues have prepared a contingency list of managerial targets which includes Eddie Howe and Mark Hughes if they cannot land a stellar name this summer, reports the Independent. With the Manchester City and Manchester United target Pep Guardiola certainly out of their reach, Chelsea have spotted Atlético Madrid’s Diego Simeone and the Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri as their top priority to take over the next permanent managerial post.
