Chelsea will play their second consecutive home game in the Barclays Premier League and will play their first game under the new manager Guus Hiddink. The new manager has already urged the players to start thinking positively and will be hoping for a positive result in his first outing.
However, it will not be easy to face a high flying Watford side that is fresh from beating Liverpool in the last week’s game. It will be a stern test for Hiddink and for his future will need the side to start his term positively. Here is the preview of the game along with the Team News, Expected Line-ups, Predictions and Betting Odds.
The Chelsea vs Watford game will be played on Saturday the 26th of December at the Stamford Bridge in London. The kick off is scheduled at 3:00 pm BST (8:30 pm IST)
Chelsea after a long time is not suffering from too many injuries in this season of the Premier League. They are however without star striker Radamel Falcao who is expected to return for the next game. Belgian winger Eden Hazard is also a doubt for this game as he limped off in Mourinho’s last game. Pedro, WIllian and Oscar are all expected to start in behind Diego Costa for the home side.
Sanchez Flores also has squad without too many injuries. He will miss the likes of Sebastian Prodl and Joel Ekstrand who will not make the trip to London. In attack, Jurado and Ighalo have been exceptional for the visitors and will surely start for this crunch fixture against the Blues.
Courtois, Ivanovic, Terry, Zouma, Azpilicueta, Matic, Fabregas, Pedro, Oscar, Willian, Costa
Gomes, Nyom, Cathcart, Britos, Ake, Watson, Capoue, Abdi, Deeney, Jurado, Ighalo.
Ighalo vs Terry:
The Nigerian International has been in top form this season and scored a brace in last week’s thumping of Liverpool. He has been hard to handle for most defenders in the Premier League but will be up against an experienced John Terry who will try and keep him quite for most of the game. This battle may determine the outcome of the game in the end.
Willian vs Ake:
Ake has been impressive with his work rate down the flank for the Hornets this season and will yet again have to be on his toes against the likes of Willian who will play down his flank. Willian has been one of the brightest players for the club this season and will hope to get the better of the defender and help his team out of their disastrous league position.
Watford have not beaten the Blues in the last 8 matches between these two teams in all competitions. But this season, it is a completely different story. The intensity with which Watford have been playing recently is hard to resist and can easily tear a low on confidence Chelsea side apart.
