Chelsea’s €75m bid for long-term Arsenal target rejected

Juventus will try everything to keep striker Morata: Juventus

Latest reports from Spain suggesting that Chelsea have finally lodged an official bid for Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata, only to watch their astonishing €75m offer rejected by the Champions League holders. It certainly brings good news for Arsenal as they are also in the run for the Spaniard. Arsene Wenger even in the last winter transfer window was keen to sign him.

Real were expected to sell on the Spain international immediately after they activated the €30m buy-back clause in his contract at Juventus, but Cadena Ser report that the La Liga giants now see him as vital to their challenges on a number of fronts next season.

Morata is expected to remain a high-value target for the Blues despite the £33m arrival of Michy Batshuayi from Marseille. The pair together could even be partnered together in the 3-5-2 system that new manager Antonio Conte is thought to want to implement when he starts work next month.

According to the reports from AS last week, Morata will put pen to paper in the next few days on a new deal worth €6m each year in net wages. It represents a 33% increase on his existing €4.5m annual salary, which was previously agreed long before the player’s actual return.

The Spanish report even suggests that before everything is officially finalised, the contract could still be extended to include a sixth year.

It is suggested that Bernabeu president Florentino Perez wasn’t keen to see Morata flourish at another club as he did with Juventus. Understandably, he wants the player to do that and continue his impressive development in a Real shirt.

Having confirmed his arrival only in words, the scene is now set for the club to formally unveil Morata after the upcoming tour of the United States.
