Clattenburg to referee Champions League final

Madrid, May 11 (IANS) European football governing body UEFA has announced that Englishman Mark Clattenburg will referee the final of the 2016 Champions League, which will see Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid on May 28 in Milan.

Clattenburg, born in 1975 and an international since 2007, will be assisted by Simon Beck and Jake Collin, UEFA declared on Tuesday, reports Efe.

The fourth referee will be Hungarian Viktor Kassai and the goal linesmen will be Englishmen Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner.

Clattenburg has officiated six games of the Champions League this season, including the Valencia-Monaco 3-1 in the qualifiers, Real Madrid-Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the group stage, Atletico Madrid-PSV Eindhoven 0-0 in the knockouts and Atletico-Bayern Munich 1-0 in the first leg of the semi-finals.

He has also refereed two matches in the Europa League this season, one of which was the Spanish duel, Athletic-Sevilla 1-2 in the quarter-finals second leg.
