Confirmed: Jurgen Klopp Admits This Liverpool Star Will Leave In January

Jurgen Klopp and Mamadou Sakho’s relationship at Liverpool soured over the summer, when the Frenchman was dismissed from the Reds’ pre-season tour of America.

It was understood that the defender was late for both the club’s flight to the states and a team meal, while also failing to attend a treatment session on an Achilles injury.

The Reds boss accused him of showing a lack of respect and had not long returned from the sidelines after an investigation into alleged doping denied him the chance to feature in the Europa League final and Euro 2016 with France.

Klopp made it clear to Sakho that he didn’t see a future for him at Anfield, but the Frenchman rejected the interest of West Brom, Stoke and Nice in the summer, in belief that he could work his way back into first-team contention.

However, despite Klopp insisting he would not be selling any of his players in January, the Liverpool boss has confessed that did not include Sakho – who has since resigned himself to leaving the club, having yet to make a match day squad this season.

The 26-year-old is not short of options, with Besiktas, Inter and AC Milan also understood to be interested in the France international. However, his £100,000-a-week wages could prove problematic in Klopp’s attempts to get Sakho off the wage bill.

As per the Liverpool Echo, Klopp has rebuffed claims on social media that Sakho is in anyway closer to returning to his first-team plans – immediately dismissing such an idea.klopp

The Frenchman’s Liverpool career is over and will be sold next month, when the transfer window opens according to the publication.

“Nothing has changed.” Klopp admitted.

“Of course he is not involved in this (first team squad). You should have know it before that he is not involved in this sentence.

“Now you know, I said it: he is not in these plans for the first team. The first team squad is here (at the training ground).

“You know all this. Do you really think I would have said Sakho will not be sold in winter? You don’t have to check, you knew it before. Now you can use it as you want.”

The Reds defender has spent the past three months in the wilderness – training with Liverpool’s Under-23 team – while watching on as Lucas has featured in defence for Klopp in the EFL Cup.

Klopp has had reservations about Sakho for some time and it is understood the defender is eyeing up a loan move to Serie A with either of the Milan clubs.

Despite Liverpool’s defensive fragility at times this season, the Reds boss has shown a stubborn resistance to avoid including Sakho in his match day squad, and could look for defensive reinforcements in January.
