Manchester United are inviting offers for out-of-favour midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The 31-year-old German was left at home by Jose Mourinho as the rest of the squad defeated Galatasaray 5-2 on Saturday night.
And after an injury-hit and underwhelming debut season at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are believed to be open to offers for the former German international, Manchester Evening News reports.
With competition from Michael Carrick , Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, and the likely arrival of Paul Pogba, Mourinho has made Schweinsteiger’s United uncertain and Mourinho has decided the veteran midfielder is not part of his plans for next season.
He has been informed already to find a new club, although United now face the tough task of finding a buyer for one of their top earners.
There is tentative interest from Inter Milan and AC Milan but Schweinsteiger, who announced his international retirement last week, would have to take a pay cut to complete a move to the San Siro.
Schalke are also considering a move for Schweinsteiger. And German website Transfermarkt suggests Schalke are ready to offer the 31-year-old a deal as they are in search of some midfield experience.
However, the Bundesliga outfit may struggle to meet his huge wage demands as he currently earns a staggering £275,000 a week at Old Trafford.
Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, and Paddy McNair were also left out of the squad that travelled to Sweden on Saturday.
They have also been told they do not feature in Mourinho’s plans ahead of the new season and could now leave on loan.
Mourinho is hopeful of making his fourth summer signing this week if United can thrash out the final details of Pogba’s world record move from Juventus.
The Portuguese coach has repeatedly stressed a central midfielder – whether it is Pogba or not – will be his last ‘key’ signing of the transfer window.
However, there remains the possibility the Portuguese could go back into the market before August 31 to add more depth to his squad.
It is understood United are still exploring the possibility of signing a right-back and a centre-back before the window closes with doubts over the futures of Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo.
