In the round 13 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification from CONMEBOL zone, Brazil thrashed the hosts Uruguay by 1-4 with the help of Paulinho’s hat-trick while another hosts Argentina climbed up to the third spot in the points table after beating Chile with the help of Messi’s penalty score.
On the other hand, Colombia and Paraguay defeated Bolivia and Ecuador respectively while Venezuela held Peru to a 2-2 draw.
Despite an early opening goal from a penalty, hosts Uruguay suffered a 4-1 defeat against Brazil. Uruguay opened the scoreline on just 9 minutes through a penalty goal by Edinson Cavani. Uruguay earned that penalty after Cavani was fouled by Brazil’s goalie (Alisson) inside the penalty box, after which Cavani made no mistake to put the hosts ahead.
10 minutes later, Paulinho equalised the scoreline for Brazil (1-1) through an incredible goal. Paulinho’s shot from 25-yard distance was right on target not giving any chance to the hosts’ goalie (Martín Silva).
On 7 minutes of the second half, Paulinho put Brazil ahead by 2-1. After Firmino’s low shot was saved by Silva, the ball reached in a dangerous position from where Paulinho made no mistake the clinical finish.
With a goal on 74 minutes, Neymar strengthened Brazil’s position in the match. After successfully chasing Miranda’s long clearance, Neymar chipped over the hosts’ goalie to make 3-1 for Brazil. Paulinho completed his hat-trick at injury time (90’+2’) after he netted a cross from Dani Alves with his chest.
Meanwhile, hosts Argentina climbed up to the third position in the CONMEBOL WC Qualifiers points table after beating Chile by 1-0 through Lionel Messi’s penalty score. On 15 minutes, Argentina was awarded a penalty after Di Maria was hit by Jose Fuenzalida inside the penalty box. Earlier Chile’s Fuenzalida netted a ball (6’) for his team but he was correctly called offside which also denied the visitors the lead.
