Manchester City and Crystal Palace face off in a top of the table contest in the Barclays Premier League. The city has started with a bang and has taken all the points on offer so far in the first four games. They have scored 10 goals and are yet to concede in the League. They have also made some significant purchases in the transfer window and have a look of a champion’s outfit already.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, has won 3 out of the first four games and are in the second place in the early days of the League. Their only loss was against Arsenal and this game against City is their biggest yet. Alan Pardew has started the season on a strong foundation and will love his team to cause an upset early in the League. This article is a Preview of the clash between the two teams.
The Crystal Palace vs Manchester City game will take place on Saturday the 12th of September at the Selhurst Park in London. The kick-off is scheduled at 3:00 pm BST (7:30 pm IST).
Joel Ward the right-back picked up a knock in training and may miss up to a month. Alan Pardew confirmed that Chamakh will remain sidelined for the game against Manchester City. Yohan Cabaye who was substituted at half-time in the match against Portugal is fit to start, Pardew stated.
The city has a slight problem at the right back position with both Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna injured for this match. This might allow Pellegrini to try the new signing Nicolas Otamendi in an unfamiliar position. Fernando and Fabian Delph are the other two causalities that cannot make it to the game on Saturday for Manchester City.
Crystal Palace is fresh from a morale-boosting 2-1 victory against Champions Chelsea. They looked slick and smart with their passing and seemed high on confidence. This may be the perfect time for them to play against City. Cabaye provided a lot of pace in the final third and Wickham looked on top of his game. If they can manage to build the same kind of chemistry, City may well have a tougher time defending.
Palace though looked shaky in defense and may leak goals against a top side who have scored 10 goals in 4 games already. It is hard to see Palace keeping a clean sheet with the likes of Silva, Toure and Aguero in fine form. New buys Sterling and De Bryne give Pellegrini the options if needed. His side looks very strong and will take a very good performance from Pardew’s side to beat them.
Hart is yet to concede a goal in the league and it will be left to see if Crystal Palace can pose a danger to Hart’s record. Pardew will want his team to stay compact and attack in groups. But he will surely set his team up in a defensive style and try to push City to the edge.
The last meeting between these two teams at the Selhurst Park saw Palace take all their points from City. Pardew will know that he will need his team to be at its best if he wants to take anything from this game this time around. The city will like to keep their unbeaten run going and will try and put as much distance as possible between their nearest challengers.
