Alan Pardew has done a great job with the Crystal Palace side and has started this season in fine fashion. They sit at the 7th place with 15 points after 10 games and the manager will like to keep up the good work for as long as possible. They will welcome Louis van Gaal’s side on a game that has always produced a closely fought contest.
Palace are a hard team to beat at home and United will hope to bounce back from the dull draw against City. This article is a preview of the game along with Team news, predictions and betting odds.
The Crystal Palace vs Manchester United game will take place on Saturday the 31st of October at the Selhurst Park. The kick-off is scheduled at 4:00 pm BST (8:30 pm IST).
The biggest news for the home team will be the availability of Jason Puncheon who picked up a niggle. Cabaye, Souare and Connor Wickham will need late fitness checks. Pardew will also welcome back James McArthur who missed the mid-week clash against City for his child’s birth.
Van Gaal will be without the services of summer signing Memphis Depay and Wilson who picked up injuries in the Capital One cup clash against Middlesbrough. Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw are long term injuries and Antonio Valencia’s fitness will be assessed later.
Crystal Palace have suffered back to back defeats against Leicester in the Premier League last week and against Manchester City in the League Cup. The Leicester City game was an even affair as Pardew’s side did not deserve to lose but the Cup game was a different story. They let 5 goals in against City at the Etihad.
They were thrown out of the League Cup which was a chance at silverware and it will dent the confidence of the squad as a whole. United also suffered similar fate in the Cup clash. They took the game to extra time against Middlesbrough and were beaten on penalties. They were held to a 0-0 draw against City last weekend in the League.
Both clubs are badly in need of some good results after a disappointing week and both the managers will be hoping that they can get away from this game with all three points.
Martial has been the brightest star for United this season and will pose plenty of threat in attack. He will always keep the Palace back-line on their heels that will free up space for others in the mid-field. This is something Pardew should address before the game.
Cabaye if fit along with Sako and Puncheon will be the real threat for United at the back. They have plenty of pace and can hit the United team on the counter if they are sloppy at the back. This game will be a good technical battle.
Hennessey, Ward, Delaney, Dann, Souare, McArthur, Cabaye, Sako, Puncheon, Zaha, Bolasie
De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Mata, Herrera, Martial, Rooney
The Selhurst Park is always a tough place to get a result from and Van Gaal’s side will need to play better football than in their last two games if they want to come out of this game with a result. If Palace can take their chances on the day they may end up taking all three points on the day but this will be a daunting task as they have not been able to beat United in the last 13 meetings.
