According to some reports, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has decided to start goalkeeper David de Gea on the bench for Manchester United’s opening game of the Premier League season against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Van Gaal expressed his concerns over the Spanish custodian’s performances in the friendly aganst Paris Saint-Germain in which errors from him let the French side score past him. Eventually, Manchester United lost 2-0 and Van Gaal went on to say “Mistakes do happen. But if you are the goal keeper your mistakes is costly. It results in a goal”.
According to the British press, Van Gaal could hand his recent signing, Argentina’s goalkeeper Sergio Romero, although it is believed that Van Gaal will make his final decision in the next 48 hours. However, few days back, Van Gaal had said “De Gea will start in the first game against Tottenham.”
Van Gaal is sure that De Gea wants to sign for Madrid and this decision would bring the move one step closer. Real Madrid are after De Gea for a while now and are looking to finish the deal before the Transfer window gets over.
