Premier League giants Chelsea FC are linked with a move for Olympique Lyonnais star striker Alexandre Lacazette in the winter transfer window, according to Daily Mail.
Alexandre Lacazette, 24 was the top scorer of the French Ligue 1 last season beating the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani in the race. The French international became a huge sensation after such a fantastic season last time.
He was linked with several big clubs during summer transfer window. Premier League giants like Arsenal, Liverpool and even Chelsea were reportedly interested in signing him.
During the summer transfer window, it was reported that Chelsea had decided to move ahead in the race to sign the deadly French striker by offering Loic Remy and £15 Million for Lacazette’s signature.
At the moment, the defending champions Chelsea is going through a rough patch. They are currently struggling at the bottom half of the table. They struggled at the beginning of the season but somewhat recovered after defeating Arsenal last weekend.
In that match due to a bad tussle between Diego Costa and Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista the Brazilian-born Spanish striker has been banned for 3 matches.
Jose Mourinho has seen his £32 million signing Diego Costa suffer constant injuries in the later part of the previous season which got the Chelsea manager worried for next season as well since Costa has had a history of struggling to cope up with injuries and excessive number of games. Costa has also been extremely inconsistent so far in the season.
The other two back up strikers of Chelsea are not up to the mark. Loic Remy who joined the Blues last summer has still not made a mark in the team. The other one is Radamel Falcao who joined the club this season on loan. Falcao is a Manchester United reject and his parent club AS Monaco is not ready to take him in their team. Which pretty much sums his credentials at the moment.
Lacazette has enjoyed an inspired season with Ligue 1 side Lyon scoring 30 goals and making 8 assists in 37 appearances this season. Lacazette is just 23-years-old, which is the right age for him to make his big move in club football.
During the summer, Alexandre Lacazette was valued around £20 million.
It will be interesting to see if Jose Mourinho would actually push for the talismanic forward in the winter. Chelsea did not spend a huge sum during the summer transfer window, thus, spending money during winter to bolster the squad will never be big a problem for the club.
The only concern is whether the Portuguese manager will approve the move, who is known for not making massive changes in the squad halfway through the season.
Alexandre Lacazette will be a great addition to the Chelsea squad who can convert the present squad as a serious title contenders.
