Chelsea striker was visibly infuriated after the West Brom game but what he allegedly did in the tunnel is truly shocking. Diego Costa is said to have punched a hole in the Chelsea tunnel. Diego Costa is notorious for his antics on and off the pitch and it wouldn’t be the most unbelievable thing in the world if he has actually punched a hole.
Costa did not have a memorable night in front of goal as he scuppered numerous chances. He was more effective in picking up fights with the West Brom players than with his shooting. Costa was involved in altercations all over the pitch and had a heated exchange with keeper Boaz Myhill at full-time.
Costa was warned to keep his emotions in check when new boss Guus Hiddink took over and fortunately for him his manager feels that he has not yet crossed the line “I think there was a little space left. The central defenders were provoking him and he was causing danger continuously. It [the aggression] was mutual.”
Hiddink doesn’t want to discipline Costa too much ”He’s an emotional guy and I like that very much. If you have to push players it’s difficult to survive in the Premier League, but if you have to control them it’s much better.”
Hiddink saw the funnier side of the ‘wall-punching ’incident – “A hole in the tunnel wall? We can repair that easily, it’s not a problem.”
Guus and Chelsea need to keep Costa fit and focused as he is the only fit enough striker they have. Remy and Falcao have been out for the most part of the season due to injuries and Chelsea are looking at options to help Costa up front. AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca and West Brom’s Saido Berahino are on their radar.
Earlier this season, Diego Costa had been retrospectively banned for 3 games and also received a 1 match suspension after picking up 5 yellow cards. He has since added to that tally and now has 7 yellow cards, just 1 less than the number of goals he has scored!
