According to latest reports from Germany, Dortmund’s star central midfielder Ilkay Gundogan held talks for a possible contract extension from Dortmund’s management. This have drawn interest from a host of big clubs across Europe including Arsenal and Manchester United.
With Dortmund having a disastrous start to the season and the chances to qualify for Champions League looking bleak, the midfielder is considering his future elsewhere.
The 24-year old stalled putting pen on contract with a move to England would his wages double who is currently earning a mere £60,000 per-week at Dortmund. The contract of Gundogan runs till the summer of 2016 with 16 months left in his contract.
Dortmund can sell the midfielder in the summer if the player is not interested in signing a new contract. This would cost other clubs in the region of £16 million to land the talented midfielder.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has been vocal in the club’s attempts to keep Gundogan at Signal Iduna Park and said, “We want to continue to work with Ilkay and will continue the talks.”
The 24-year old will be available for cut-price deal at the end of the season if Jurgen Klopp and Dortmund are ready to cash in on the midfielder before he becomes free for next summer if he doesn’t sign a contract extension.
However Dortmund fans are expecting the midfielder to follow the footsteps of fellow team member Marco Reus and stay at Signal Iduna Park.
