According to latest reports from Germany, Dortmund’s star central midfielder Ilkay Gundogan held talks for a possible contract extension from Dortmund’s management. He is looking to move to Premier League and has Manchester United in his sights as his possible future club.
The midfielder is consider his future elsewhere with Dortmund’s chances to qualify for Champions League next season looks very bleak. The midfielder has 16 months left in his contract and can leave Signal Iduna park for a much lower price as little as £18.4million.
“I’d like to leave the German championship, one day. Playing in the Premier League is one of my goals,” Gundogan said earlier. With Manchester United expected to sign a star creative midfielder, Gundogan can be the perfect play maker they are looking for.
However Dortmund are trying to hold the midfielder with Watzke admitting that they will try to sign a new contract with Gundogan as soon as possible just like they made Marco Reus sign it.
“We want to extend Ilkay Gundogan’s contract. Those who say otherwise are wrong. Of course we would like to extend him. But there is more to it. With Ilkay we will negotiate like Marco Reus: We can talk as much about him as anyone else, but we hope he stays with us.”
He added: “I know that he feels fine with us. He’s a great guy. We have been working together in a great way.”
