The Premier League is on another hiatus this weekend as a third round of World Cup Qualifiers kicks off and it seems, Arsenal more than most, have the most to bemoan.
On Tuesday it emerged that Chile international and in-form Arsenal striker, Alexis Sanchez, had suffered a low-grade calf muscle tear while training with the international side. This injury, while still being assessed, could see him miss the Gunners’ crucial Premier League encounter with Manchester United on November 19th.
Bad as that sounds, Gooners will be up in arms today with the news that defender Hector Bellerin might be set to join the Chilean on the sidelines for the United game. According to the Express, the 21-year-old sat our training yesterday while on duty with the Spain U-21 squad.
Having just signed a six year contract extension with the club, fans can expect to see Bellerin become part of the Emirates Stadium furniture but it now looks like Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may have to make plans without his star defender for next weekend.
Gunners fans will be sliding ever closer to despair this week as despite not losing since the opening day of the season, they are currently two points behind Liverpool at the top of table. With November being a month where they have historically lost ground on their rivals, they will want to see Wenger in a position to field the strongest side possible to ensure they remain in the title hunt this term.
As they wait on confirmation on both Sanchez and Bellerin, Wenger and worried fans can mere hope that all isn’t as bad as currently feared.
