Douglas Da Silva Santos, the former Brazilian footballer who once graced Kolkata and Indian football having played for both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan in early 2000, is planning to lodge a complaint to the All India Football Federation and later to the world soccer’s ruling body, Fifa against Mohun Bagan-SAIL Football Academy in Durgapur. Recently Douglas was the technical director of Mohun Bagan academy in Durgapur.
While speaking from his residence in Sao Paulo in Brazil, over the phone on Wednesday, the angry Brazilian defender fumed saying, “Despite being the academy team’s technical director till date the management of the academy has terminated my contract. Still I have got the copy of the contract which was notarized in Durgapur court and it shows that the academy made a contract with me in 2014 and it will expire in 2016. How can it be possible? I will first send a letter to the All India Football Federation and if I do not get any justice then I will move to Fifa.”
Douglas added saying, “The academy secretary Mr Tapan Roy asked me to go to Brazil in last May to make advanced coaching degree. And while doing the advanced coaching course in Brazil I informed My Roy that I would be able to return to Durgapur only in September as I would not get a visa before it. Mr Roy, being agreed with my information, promised me to send me a ticket in September finally. But once after getting my visa whenever I called Mr Roy, he said he does not need me as TD of the team anymore!”
On the contrary, secretary of Mohun Bagan academy in Durgapur, Tapan Roy while reacting to Douglas said, “We have not deceived Douglas at all. He was sent to Brazil to earn advanced coaching degree. And he was scheduled to return to the academy at the end of July. We sent him ticket also. But he failed to turn up. Naturally, we had to bring Jo Paul Anchery, the former Indian international footballer as the team’s Technical Director.”
