Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reached Catalunya to sign Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez, according to Dail Mail. Woodward will be watching Barcelona’s Super Cup second leg game against Athletic Bilbao and it is believed that after the game the United official would wrap up the transfer deal for the Spaniard.
Pedro has been linked with a move to Manchester United for quite sometime now and it is reported that United have now become desperate to include the winger into their squad.
Although United manager Louis van Gaal was skeptical about the signing of Pedro who lacks pace, it is believed that the club would now surely rope in the winger. City rivals Manchester City had also joined the race in the past week. The Cityzens have already hijacked Nicolas Otamendi’s transfer move and the Argentine defender is now on the verge of joining the blues from Manchester. Thus Woodward would waste time and quickly complete the deal for the out of favour Barcelona star.
Also Ed Woodward will reportedly monitor Athletic Bilbao’s young defender Aymeric Laprote closely and might finalise that deal too. Manchester United desperately needs a quality center back to bolster their backline. Aymeric Laporte had a fantastic season with the La Liga outfit last time and was regarded as one of the best young central defenders of Europe.
United were linked with several big names this summer which included Sergio Ramos, Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones. But inthe current circumstances none of the above mentioned names would turn up at Old Trafford. While Sergio Ramos extended his stay at Santiago Bernabeu, Otamendi will sign for rivals Manchester City. Everton have also clarified a number of times that John Stones will not be released.
Thus, it will be ideal if United can finalise Laporte deal along with Pedro.
