The mid-week in the Barclays Premier League produced some scintillating performances from individual players with teams from the top half of the table enjoying success. From Vardy’s sensational goal to Fosters heroics, there were a lot of performances that set the stage alight.
Here is the team of the week for the 24th round of fixtures in the Premier League:
Fraser Foster (Southampton):
Appearing for just the fourth time this season, Foster did exceptionally well to keep a clean sheet at the Emirates as he gave the Saints a point with 10 saves on the night.
Virgin van Dijk (Southampton):
The central defender was superb in the 0-0 draw against Arsenal as he kept the Gunners away from the goal giving them no space and time and, in turn, picking up a clean sheet on the night.
Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City):
Along with a goal-line clearance in the dying minutes, Otamendi did really well to see off the resurgence from the Black Cats as the Citizens held on to all three points with a solitary goal.
Sebastian Prodl (Watford):
Winning 6 out of 8 ariel duels and completing 32 passes, Prodl was superb at the back for the Hornets against Chelsea as he helped his team to a point and a clean sheet against the Champions.
Mark Noble (West Ham United):
With 112 completed passes at an accuracy rate of 93%, Mark Noble was simply unplayable as he controlled the tempo of the game and also provided the assist for Antonio’s goal.
Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur):
Fast becoming a superstar, the England international played an exceptionally well against the Canaries in the 3-0 victory. He also picked himself a goal and helped his team leapfrog Arsenal into the 3rd place.
Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City):
Though could not pick himself a goal, Mahrez was superb against Liverpool as he simply broke through the Reds defense with ease consistently. He also provided the assist for Vardy’s opener.
Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham United):
Apart from getting a goal against Villam Kouyate caused menace in the midfield with his direct approach and had Aston Villa on the back foot every time he was in possession of the ball.
Anthony Martial (Manchester United):
The brightest player for Untied up front this season, Martial produced another good performance against the Potters this mid-week. His well-taken goal cutting in from the left showed why Van Gaal paid big money for him.
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur):
Scoring a brace and troubling the Canaries all night long, Harry Kane was back to his best on Tuesday as he showed his finishing abilities and class to take away all three points from Norwich City.
Jamie Vardy (Leicester City):
With probably the goal of the season, Jamie Vardy ended his 3 match goal scoring drought with a brace in the 2-0 victory against Liverpool. He was sedated in the first half but produced the moment of the season so far with a 40-yard volley that flew past Mignolet and back into the net. He is the man of the week for the 24th round of fixtures.
