Defending Premier League champions Chelsea take on FA Cup champions Arsenal in the FA Community Shield 2015 on Sunday, 2nd August at the Wembley stadium. Both the teams have completed their share of pre-season trainings and have travelled around the globe to play against quality opposition to test their individual squads ahead of the season. Community Shield is the first proper tournament of the season and within a week the new season of Premier League will begin.
It is battle of supremacy among the two best teams of England from last season. On one side we have the Professor Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal’s gorgeous football and on the other side we have the master tactician Jose Mourinho whose Chelsea prefers to play a tactical game. It is going to be great clash between the two champion sides and a victory in this match would surely boost the team’s confidence ahead of the big season.
Both the managers will field their best possible line ups in this game as it is an important match. For further information refer to our previous article on the predicted lineups.
In this article we have decided to make a best possible combined XI of the two seides:
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois
Defenders: Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Laurent Koscielny, Cesar Azpilicueta.
Midfielders: Santi Cazorla, Nemanja Matic, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Eden Hazard.
Striker: Olivier Giroud
A graphic representation of the possible combined XI and the formation is given below:
Petr Cech will make his competitive debut for Arsenal against his former club Chelsea on Sunday. Thus, we have a dilemma to choose between the two former team mates Cech and Thibaut Courtois. Petr Cech left Arsenal after he became the second fiddle to Courtois at Chelsea since last season. Courtois had great season with the Blues and he is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world right now. Keeping in mind the custodians’ recent form Thibaut Courtois nudges Petr Cech and comes up into our combined XI.
As for the backline Chelsea undoubtedly have an edge over Arsenal. The champions’ defensive records was incredible last season and it was one of the key reasons why Chelsea had become the winners. Jose Mourinho might keep Gary Cahill out of the starting lineup tomorrow as he suffered a broken nose last week against FC Barcelona. Thus, the only Arsenal player who gets into our team will be French center back Laurent Koscielny.
Arsenal have arguably the best midfield lineup on paper in the Premier League this time. They have an array of talent in their midfield with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla etc. In our team we have Chelea midfielders, Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic. We have kept Aarom Ramsey ahead of Willian in the right midfield position. Arsene Wenger will miss the services of star plaer Alexis Sanchez due to fitness concerns thus Sanchez is not considered in our team.
Chelsea forward Diego Costa is likely to miss the match as he too had picked up an injury in the game against Barcelona. Though, he has been declared fit, it is highly unlikely that Mourinho will risk his main striker. In Costa’s absence we have chosen Olivier Giroud as our lone striker ahead of Chelsea’s Radamel Falcao.
