FA Decides Wayne Rooney’s England Fate

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney will heave a huge sigh of relief after the FA’s decision to not take any action against the striker for gatecrashing a wedding while on international duty.

Earlier, FA chief executive Martin Glenn had said that the governing body will investigate the incident after photos published in The Sun showed the England international looking worse for wear.

Glenn had said:“We’re getting a proper investigation of what actually went on – “were there other FA staff involved – yes or no?” – and we’re doing a review of it obviously. It’s disappointing. I think it’s appropriate he apologised because it doesn’t set a great tone for the England captain but, that said, I don’t want to over-dramatise it either.”

“We’re talking to anyone who was there on Saturday night to find out if anyone from the backroom staff was involved and then we’ll take a view, but we don’t know what the facts are yet.“I think it’d be ‘why on earth are you doing that given there is an understanding, a team agreement around alcohol consumption during camps?’, so there would be questions asked for sure,” he further said.

Following a widespread criticism, Rooney apologised immediately for his behaviour but also insisted that he did no anything wrong. After the Europa League tie against Feyenoord on Thursday night, he said: I actually didn’t even step foot into the wedding and I think it’s a shame that I’m having to talk about it now after such a great victory.”

And the Daily Mirror has reported that the FA is convinced that their skipper did not break the code of the conduct and have cleared him to play for England. The report claimed that interim boss Gareth Southgate had not imposed a curfew on the players and as a result, several players including Liverpool duo-Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana enjoyed a night out.

Meanwhile, Rooney will be looking to secure his place in the starting eleven of the national team with some consistent performances. The United skipper turned back the clocks with a sizzling display against Feyenoord and will be keen to continue that form.
