After a 6-0 drubbing against Aston Villa, Liverpool were frustrated by German side Augsburg in their first leg of the round of 32 fixture of the Europa league. Klopp sent out a relatively strong side which could not do the work as neither team was able to make a breakthrough.

There were not too many chances but failing to convert the half chances created has hurt Liverpool in recent past and it looks like they have not learned their lesson as yet. Liverpool now need a victory to go through to the next round in the second leg at Anfield.

Here are the player ratings for this game:

Liverpool:

Simon MIgnolet (2.5):

Had his moments of madness when he let the ball spill out of his hand a couple of times but hardly had anything to do except the tame shot one on one that has saved in the second half.

Nathaniel Clyne (3):

By far the best player at the back for Liverpool, Clyne was solid in defense giving Augsburg no chance on his flank and also move ahead in search of some space down the right in the final third.

Kolo Toure (2.5):

Was at times beaten for pace as he was caught in behind but was generally solid at the back as he commanded his area well.

Mamadou Sakho (2.5):

Not the greatest performance from the Frenchman as he looked shaky at times and also misplaced some of his passes from the back.

Alberto Moreno (3.5):

Full of energy and running up and down his flank as he tried to create chances in the final third. HE was also aware of the dangers down his flank in defense as he made a number of crucial interceptions.

Emre Can (2):

Was too lazy on the ball and lost it more than a couple of times at the back putting pressure on his team. He also failed to architect any forward attacks lying in a deep role.

James Milner (3):

Was industrious playing in a more central role but failed to create any chances of note as he often tried to find the killer ball and failed.

Jordan Henderson (2.5):

Worked hard all throughout the game but was just not able to keep it together in the final third as his side lacked the quality to open up the Augsburg defense.

Roberto Firmino (3):

Had one or two good moments in the final third but failed to create enough opportunities and take the chances that fell his way.

Phillipe Coutinho (2.5):

He had a quiet game as he was surrounded by players when in possession. Could not find the right ball even as he tried some beautiful balls into the path of his teammates.

Daniel Sturridge (2.5):

Had his chances to give Liverpool the lead but was wasteful in front of goal. Also looked lethargic starting his second game in 4 days.

SUBS:

Divock Origi (2.5):

Induced some pace straight away into the game but hardly had any service to impact the game.

Jordan Ibe (2.5):

Came in too late into the game to have any say on the score-line.

Augsburg:

Hitz (3); Janker (2.5), Klavan (3), Stafylidis (2.5), Verhaegh (3); Esswein (2.5); Werner (3), Altintop (2.5), Kohr (3), Feulner (2.5); Bobadilla (2.5)

SUBS:

Caiuby (2.5), Ja-Cheol Koo (2.5), Dong-Won Ji (2.5)
