FC Pune City and Chennaiyin FC play out a 1-1 draw in an exciting game for the battle of top spot.
This is the third consecutive draw for Chennaiyin FC and has put them level on points table with leaders Atletico de Kolkata only down on goal difference.
Both sides had the chance to go to the top of the table with a win in this match. With a draw in this game there is no change in the points table. Atletico de Kolkata are still on top with 12 points with a better goal difference than Chennaiyin FC.
The big team news from both sides before the match is that Bernard Mendy is out due to a niggle for Chennaiyin while David Trezeguet doesn’t feature on the bench too for Pune City.
Kostas Katsouranis with a spectacular finish gave FC Pune City the lead in the 9th minute of the match. Israil Gurung sends in a brilliant ball from the left in front of the keeper and Kostas strikes it into the goal.
Chennaiyin FC gets a penalty in 15th minute as Magliochetti brings Materazzi down and gets an yellow card. But Elano shoots the ball wide off the right post as Arindam went the other way. That was the first ever missed penalty in the Indian Super League.
Bruno Cirillo got booked for a tackle on Mendoza just outside the penalty area.The free kick by Elano is taken beautifully and it hits the cross bar. Mikael Silvestre got booked before half time for bringing down Dudu just outside the box and Davide Colomba steers the free kick into the wall but the ball deflects off the post and back to him, this time he blasts the ball above the post.
Stiven Mendoza was asking some serious questions in the first half. The Colombian has been tireless and unlucky, he could have scored a hat-trick.
In the way the game has played in the first half it’s a huge surprise the scoreline is 1-0, it could’ve easily been 2-2 or 3-3 with the opportunities created.
Finally, after many attempts on the goal, Stiven Mendoza scores the equalizer for Chennaiyin in the 58th minute of the game. Balwant Singh provides him with a perfect pass into the box and Mendoza provides a calm and stylish finsih to bring Chennaiyin FC back into the game.
Pune City made their second substitution as Mady Panandétiguiri came on for Davide Colomba after the injured Lenny Rodriguez was earlier replaced by Anupam Sarkar. They had to make their third change immediately as Bruno Cirillo is injured and on came Andres González.
The former Manchester United player Eric Djemba-Djemba made his debut for Chennaiyin FC in the 72nd minute as he replaces another former Red Devil Bojan Djordjic. Balwant Singh is substituted in 80th minute and on came Jeje Lalpekhlua.
FC Pune City came into the second half with the one goal lead, they had their eyes set to take the first position on the points table but Chennaiyin FC spoiled the home teams party and Stiven Mendoza came up with a lovely equaliser. Though it ended in a draw but it was one of the best games so far. For the first time Elano missed on scoring a goal in a match in this league. The winnner of this game would have dislodged Kolkata of the top but now the points table stand as it was before the game.
