According to reports in The Sun, in a desperate attempt to bring Southampton star Jose Fonte to Old Trafford, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is willing to offer Argentina international Marcos Rojo to the saints. United are also facing competition from league rivals Arsenal for the Euro cup winning defender.
Rojo does not feature in Mourinho’s plans this season and he has been attempting to part ways with the Argentine this summer, only for the 26-year-old to make clear his intentions to fight for his first-team place at Old Trafford. However, with new signing Eric Bailly impressing during his first outing, the Argentine might be on his way out of United.
Fonte has been offered a new contract at the St Mary’s but the Portuguese international has shown his interest to a potential transfer to United.
“If the interest is there, it is a reason to be flattered to be associated with a club like Manchester United. I have a contract with Southampton, and I’m just focused on my work, to make a great season. I will not deny that Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world. But to be Manchester United’s player is a big difference,” Fonte was quoted on a Portuguese website.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has been asked to sell players before adding any other player to the squad which means Arsenal can make a move for the defender.
