Jose Mourinho has mentioned several times that he is most comfortable with a 23 men squad at his disposal. With the first team at Carrington that includes 31 players, the Portuguese boss is sure to send some players out on loan before the end of transfer window.
However looks like it’s not going to be Ashely Young. According to Daily Star, the Red Devils were approached by Crystal Palace for a loan move for Ashley Young.
But the Manchester giants were quick to reject it. Palace recently sold Yannick Bolasie to Everton and are looking for a replacement and probably thought Young to be a good option. It’s believed that despite the rejection they are still ready to offer a club-record deal to secure the service of experienced Young.
Palace are also said to be interested in signing Liverpool striker Christian Benteke as Pardew looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season.
The 31-year-old Englishman has two years remaining on his contract and Jose Mourinho wants to utilize him this season as the club looks to compete in three domestic competitions and Europa League.
He did not feature in the 3-1 win at Bournemouth on Sunday but is expected to start appearing in games soon.
Young, 31, joined United from Aston Villa back in 2011 and has notched 14 goals in 141 games for the Red Devils in his five years at Old Trafford.
Now behind the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Memphis Depay, Young’s chances of playing first-team football under Jose Mourinho appear to be slim – and Palace were seemingly hoping to take advantage.
