Arsenal managed to add some quality players to their squad late in the transfer window but will surely regret missing out on some of their top transfer targets throughout the summer.
The likes of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, and Mauro Icardi were all elusive for Wenger as he had to settle for Lucas Perez from the La Liga to add some firepower to his attack.
One such player, who might be dearly missed by the Gunners is French international Alexandre Lacazette.
The 25-year old has been one of the most prolific goal scorers in Europe for a couple of years now and has been attracting interest from the Emirates outfit for two summer transfer windows now.
However, Wenger has not been able to convince Lyon to sell in either of the windows as they are adamant to keep their star player who has been carrying them to the top of the League 1 table slowly but steadily.
The likes of West Ham were also interested in his signature but it was revealed that West Ham rejected a €50 million from West Ham and a €35m offer from Arsenal rejected in the course of the summer.
He has once against started the new season bang in form finding the net 6 times already in the first three league matches. So it does not come as a surprise that Lyon are hoping to tie him down for the long term.
Recent reports have revealed that Lacazette will be offered a better contract that will extend his stay for another 5 years along with a buy-out clause that will keep the club secure if European giants want him next summer.
The 25-year old still has 3 years left on his contract but Lyon are desperate to keep hold of him and are ready to break the club record to make the striker the highest paid in their history.
It will not be easy to convince Lacazette to sign a 5-year contract with the club but it is understood that the French international is happy at the club and that a deal might be struck in the coming days.
It will come as grim news for Arsenal fans who wanted a tried European striker in their ranks. Do you think Lacazette should stay in Lyon for 5 more years?
