Gerard Pique Says Cristiano Ronaldo Is Favourite To Win Ballon d’Or

Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo has turned 32 this year but that has not stopped him from doing what he does best, win trophies.

His Real Madrid side won the league title and the Champions League trophy last season which meant that the club became the first team to retain the UEFA Champions League title and the first team to retain the Europe title after 58 years.

This victory mean that Ronaldo, who also helped Portugal to the EURO16 title in France, is one the most decorated player in recent times.

The 32-year old winger has now won nine trophies in just over 14 months and his efforts for the La Liga outfit are now close to landing him yet another Ballon d’Or this year.

And Barcelona star Gerard Pique was all praises for Ronaldo and in a recent interview spoke about the Portuguese star.

Pique speaks Ronaldo and Real Madrid rivalry

Speaking in an interview with Qatar’s TV ‘One.’ whilst in Japan on promotional duties with Barcelona, Pique revealed that Ronaldo is now the favourite to lift the Ballon d’Or trophy after winning two trophies last year.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Champions League and LaLiga, so he is favourite,” Pique said in an interview with Qatar’s TV ‘One.’

“Messi is considered the best player in history and then there are other options,” he added.

He also went on to speak about his rivalry with fellow Spanish defender Sergio Ramos and revealed that there is no love lost between the pair and that they play for national colours everytime they play together.

“The rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona is very big, Ramos defends Madrid and I, Barcelona,” he continued.

“When we face each other, we try to defend our colours, but when we go with the national team we fight together.”

Hints About Future

The former Manchester United centre-back is now 30 and is expected to play the next world cup but Pique was quick to reveal that he will quit the game after the end of the World Cup.

“I have won the World Cup and the European Championship with Spain, we have made history,” Pique said.

“I will try to win it [the World Cup] again, but after that, I will retire from the Spanish national team.

“We have a new coach, Julen Lopetegui, he is doing a great job, he is demonstrating his character and we are playing great football.

“We are confident that he will play a great role in the tournament,” Pique added.

“Someday I would like to be president of Barcelona, but that is still a long way off. I don’t think about it, just to have a long career as a footballer,” he concluded.
