Official: Germany’s final 23 man squad for Euro 2016 announced

This Tuesday, Germany coach Joachim Loew publicized the final 23 man squad for the EURO 2016 in France.

An interim 27-men squad was reduced by the German boss to a 23-men squad on Tuesday to submit the final squad officially to the UEFA. But the shocking news is, players like Marco Reus, Julian Brandt, Sebastian Rudy and Karim Bellarabi haven’t been included in the squad.

Joachim Loew said: “My decision hurts as I know that it is a big disappointment for the players,”

Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus is injured and will miss the second consecutive international campaign after missing out on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Loew added: “The doctors were unable to give us a clear prognosis. Marco has massive health problems at the moment. He can only run straightforward. It was a bitter decision and a disappointment for all of us.”

There is a similar kind of problem with Bayer Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi. The midfielder has a small injury but Loew wanted a fully fit squad thus he did not risk it by keeping Bellarabi in it. Another Levekusen player Brandt recently made his international debut this Sunday but the youngster could grab a spot in the final squad. Hoffenheim’s Sebastian Rudy is also disappointed after not getting a chance to play in the 2016 European Championship in France.

The German boss said: “I thank the four players. They presented themselves very well in the trainings camp. They gave everything and I hope they can take the disappointment. It is not a decision against four players but a decision for 23 players,”

Following is Germany’s final 23-men squad:

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern), Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen)

Defenders: Jerome Boateng (FC Bayern), Jonas Hector (Cologne), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), Benedikt Hoewedes (Schalke 04), Shkodran Mustafi (FC Valencia), Emre Can (FC Liverpool), Antonio Ruediger (AS Roma)

Midfielders: Sami Khedira (Juventus Turin), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Mesut Oezil (FC Arsenal), Julian Draxler (VfL Wolfsburg), Lukas Podolski (Galatasaray Istanbul), Thomas Mueller (FC Bayern), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Manchester United), Joshua Kimmich (FC Bayern), Julian Weigl (Borussia Dortmund), Andre Schuerrle (VfL Wolfsburg)

Strikers: Mario Goetze (FC Bayern), Leroy Sane (Schalke 04), Mario Gomez (Besiktas Istanbul) Endit
