Accra (Ghana), Jan 13 (IANS) Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has been re-elected head of the West African Football Union (WAFU Zone B) for another term.

Nyantakyi garnered four votes to beat Djibrilla Hima Hamidou from Niger who polled three votes out of the total seven votes on Tuesday, reports Xinhua. Nyantakyi, who is also an executive member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will lead the Union for four years. The election took place in Accra where delegates from the seven WAFU members (Nigeria, Niger, Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Burkina Faso) held a one-day congress.

Nyantakyi has been commended for the revival of soccer competitions in the sub-region, especially the WAFU Cup, which has promoted and created competitive opportunities for players from the area to hone their skills and foster regional integration. Earlier, Nyantakyi, who opened the congress, acknowledged that football was currently going through some global challenges and “it’s our hope that with the reforms in FIFA, we will grow from strength to strength”.
