Best and Worst of Manchester City's 2014/15 season

Manuel Pellegrini had high hopes for the club after lifting the Barclays Premier League in 2013-14. But they did not have a season to remember as they finished 2nd after Chelsea and were not able to progress in any of the cups in the 2014-15 season. The quality in the squad will have caused more disappointment after a dull season and they have to perform better this season if they want to lift another trophy.

In this article, we will take a look at the last season of the club. We will try to focus on the best and the lowest moments of the last season of Manchester City and try to understand how the club can learn from them.

Highs –

Manchester City and German giants Bayern Munich were drawn in the same group in the Champions League. City lost at the Allianz Arena to a solitary late goal in the first fixture. But they won emphatically in the home leg as they beat Bayern 3-2 after late heroics from Sergio Aguero. Bayern were down to 10 men but City deserves credit for making a comeback in a difficult situation.

The other moments to savor from the season for City would be their 1-0 victory against local rivals Manchester United at home. This was a sweet victory as the game was dominated by the Red Devils. They also beat Tottenham 4-1 and Sheffield Wednesday 7-0 at the Etihad. They were at their best in these games and showed how merciless they can be when at their best.

They scored the most number of goals in the Premier League for the second consecutive season with 83. They will want to continue this for the years to come.

Lows

City started and ended the season well but in-between, they had a very torrid season. They lost to Barcelona in the Champions League by 3-1 on aggregate which would have been the most painful loss in the season. But the 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough at home in the FA Cup came close as this sent them crashing out of the cup at a very early stage.

They lost to Newcastle United in the Capital One Cup at home early in the season and with no realistic chance of winning a trophy, the season already looked bleak. They were not able to string a series of victories in the middle of season as they kept losing or drawing games which they should have won. They were not consistent enough and their season reflects as much.

They have not been great in the cup matches over the last few seasons but the Premier League is something they were good at. But teams in the second half of the table were able to pinch a point or two all throughout the season from the club. They will have to be wary of this if they want to be the champions of England again.

The transfer window this season has seen some quality additions to the squad as the club will push on for another title charge. They will have to be at their best if they want to be successful this season. Make sure you follow all the news about your favorite club from our website.
