Chelsea FC is dealt yet another big blow as their first choice star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is out of action for at least ten weeks with a serious knee injury. injury.

Premier League 2015/16 season has been harsh on defending champions Chelsea FC so far. The Blues started their campaign on a low as they drew against Swansea City. They lost the succeeding match against title rivals Manchester City and again lost their fourth game against Crystal Palace. They have so far managed to secure just four points from as many games and are 8 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Chelsea club doctors were trying to assess the full extent of the issue and although substantial swelling was preventing them from making an exact diagnosis, Courtois has already been warned he faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Chelsea’s initial fears that Courtois had suffered cruciate ligament damage are believed to have been dismissed, but the 23-year-old Belgian international has been ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Everton.

Thibaut Courtois is likely to remain out for two months which will be a huge blow for the Blues.

Jose Mourinho had brought in Thibaut Courtois last summer after a loan spell at Atletico Madrid. Courtois dethroned Petr Cech first choice custodian and established himself as Chelsea number 1.

Petr Cech was sold to Arsenal this summer as Courtois was irreplaceable. Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was bought to suffice the second choice custodian place.

Begovic has already made his debut for Chelsea after Courtois got a red card in the season opener.

While Asmir Begovic is an experienced goalkeeper and has quality as well but Courtois’ long absence will definitely hurt the champions. They are already staggering in the league table, and this new jolt can even worsen their cause this summer.
