Arsenal star Hector Bellerin can make his much-anticipated return to action against Stoke City on Saturday. The Spain international has missed six games after sustaining an ankle ligament damage during the North London derby on November 6 and might be considered for selection this week if he passes a fitness test.
The news will be a huge boost for the Gunners who have suffered some big injury setbacks in recent weeks. Their star midfielder Santi Cazorla is ruled out for their months after undergoing an operation for an ankle injury while Mathieu Debuchy is also ruled out for six weeks after suffering an injury in his first appearance for the club this term during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
Arsene Wenger will be delighted to see his first-choice right back regaining full fitness as he has been compelled to play the likes of Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy and Garbriel with mixed success.
The North London outfit will also have Francis Coquelin available again after the midfielder missed the trip to Basel due to suspension.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Thursday, Wenger said:”From Tuesday night we have no injuries, I hope. Everyone looks to have recovered well.
“Coming back into the squad, we have Coquelin who was of course suspended and maybe Bellerin who has a test today.”
The Arsenal boss had some more good news for the fans as he confirmed that Santi Cazorla’s operation went well.
He said: “It’s difficult to say surgery is perfect but it was needed and it went well. After we have to see how he will recover.
“We are positive, but once you open your body it means two months at least before you play again.”
Meanwhile, the Gunners will be looking to continue their fine form and keep the pressure on table-toppers Chelsea. Arsene Wenger’s men are currently second in the table with 31 points, 3 points adrift of the Blues and a victory against Mark Hughes’ men will see them moving to the top at least for a day as Chelsea will be in action on Sunday.
