Huge: Chelsea Preparing Club Record Deal, Emergency Meeting Expected Ahead Of First January Signing

Chelsea have reportedly made a club-record £60m bid to get the signature of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, who has been closely monitored by several European top clubs, including their Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Chelsea are one of a long list of clubs to be recently linked with the Dutch powerhouse, with Everton and Man United are also believed to be among his potential suitors.

The 25-year-old Van Dijk has shown himself to be one of the most solid defenders in Europe this season and has now been considered as an ideal January signing for Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

The former Juventus boss is understandably keen to improve defensive area due to a lack of depth behind his first-choice back three of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill – the latter of whom is a more natural full-back.

Also despite the arrival of David Luiz, Conte is still keen to bring in another defender with John Terry set to leave at the end of the season and Kurt Zouma still yet to make a first-team appearance since his knee injury last February.

As per the Daily Express, the Stamford Bridge outfit now look ready to launch big-money offer to beat rivals Man City to one of their top targets, with Pep Guardiola also chasing for Van Dijk’s signature.

It is believed that Chelsea are ready to plot £60m offer that would be a club-record purchase for the west London club, eclipsing the £50m they paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres back in 2011.

Claude Puel is determined to keep Van Dijk, but Southampton have always found it hard to keep their star players when large amounts of money are put in front of them.

The Express also say Conte has cooled his interest in Burnley’s Michael Keane in favour of Van Dijk.
