After failing to pursue Steven Gerrard to join them on a short-term basis, Liverpool looks certain to sign their former icon Xabi Alonso in the summer after Bayern Munich have decided not to renew Alonso’s contract. Former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder is currently in last year of his contract and according to BILD, he has been asked to look for another club next summer.
Alonso, 33 still loves his former club because of the fans and how much they valued his contribution to the team in their Champions League winning season in 2005. Alonso will consider an offer from Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp seeks to find the enforcer for his full-throttle game.
Being in the last year of his contract, Liverpool or any other club will be allowed to enter discussions with him come this January for a transfer move in the summer on a free transfer. Alonso’s career has been a decorated one as the star has won FIFA World Cup, Spanish La Liga title and Champions League crown twice.
If Klopp can pursue the Spaniard to make a move to Anfield, it will be a huge success for the Merseyside club. Klopp needs a sharp mind in midfield, who can control the entire play with his passing and vision and Alonso is one of the best at doing that.
