Huge: Long-term target wants to join Arsenal but his club will not sell him

Wolfsburg have released a statement claiming that Arsenal transfer target Julian Draxler will not be leaving this summer.

The 22-year-old recently revealed in an interview that his manager and the club had agreed that he would be sold after one season if a big side came in for him.

However, the Bundesliga outfit have strongly refuted these accusations.

They say that at, “no time did those responsible at the club make neither written nor oral commitments on the transfer of Julian Draxler within the current transfer period,” on their official site.

“This is reiterated by a contractual release clause agreed upon with Julian Draxler and his management, which does not come into effect until summer 2017,” they added.

The statement does, however, give some hope to Arsenal – with the possibility of a transfer next summer even if they don’t manage it now.

This episode is unlikely to end here, with the ball now in the player’s court to respond.

With both sides clearly unhappy with each other, it could rumble on for the rest of the transfer window. If it does, then the Gunners are likely to be in pole position to sign the forward, according to the latest reports.

Speaking to German publication Bild, the 22-year-old Draxler insisted that he wants to move to a top international club, and that the Bundesliga outfit had even agreed that he could go after one season.

“Before one goes public, they should also have a word with themselves,” said Draxler.

“I expressed myself clearly after the Euros, with coach Dieter Hecking, that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach has known for more than three weeks.

“Two days after the semi-final defeat to France at the European Championships, I told him how I see the whole situation and what I want, which is to leave the club.

“I was verbally assured with my transfer in August 2015 that I can leave the club when given opportunities. From Hecking as well as technical director Klaus Allofs.

“It was always clear between all parties that I would like to go to a top international club if the opportunity arises. It was discussed that we speak rationally with one another if other clubs show interest.”

Arsenal have also been strongly linked with Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez over the past few weeks, but have also been linked with the German this summer and may see him as another option in the area.
