Huge: Manchester City lead race for signature of German star


  • Manchester City who have already announced the signing of Pep Guardiola next season have a huge summer ahead of them before the start of the next season.

    With a new manager at the helm of the club, a number of changes are expected to the squad from the current season and this has seen the Citizens linked with a number of European stars.

    Recent reports linked the club with German international Ilkay Gundogan for a move to the club this summer with Pep Guardiola understood to be keen to bring the player to England along with him from Germany.

    This has seen the Etihad franchise steal the race to his signature.

    Italians sides Juventus and AC Milan were among a number of clubs who were interested in the mid-fielder. The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona were also linked with the 25 year old but it is now understood that he prefers a move to England to play under Guardiola next season.

    Gundagon’s contract at Dortmund expires at the end of the next season and the German franchise are ready to listen to offers for the player rather than letting him leave on a free transfer next year.

    The mid-fielder also rejected a new contract at the club and is surely moving away from Germany this summer.

    And Manchester City seem to the best destination for the 25-year old who is eying a union with Guardiola’s adventure in the Premier League starting next season.

    Gundagon started off his career in fine fashion but has not been able to find consistency due to a number of injuries that curtailed his progress.

    However, this season, he seems to back on track and has made 35 appearances for his club and his country so far this season.

    He is a mid-field powerhouse and will lift the quality of any side he walks into. He will surely be hot property this summer and it will be interesting to see if Manchester City make their move early in the summer transfer window.
