Arsenal have turned their attention to Florentina defender Davide Astori to resolve their defensive problems, according to reports in Italy.
Italian media outlet Gazzamercato claim that the Gunners have made an approach to sign the 29-year old to solve the defensive crisis they are facing due to injuries to experienced Per Mertesacker and Gabriel who are settled centre-halves for Arsenal.
The Italian international has drawn the interest of Arsenal as the Gunners were not willing to meet the inflated prices for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi and Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Giminez, the report suggested.
Astori have moved to Florentina on a loan deal last summer as he played an important role in their progress. He managed 38 appearances for the Italian club before securing the permanent move from Cagliari.
However, it will not be easy to lure the player away from the club as Florentina is not interested in selling the player who have impressed a lot during the last year.
But Arsenal are confident that they could strike a deal for the 29-year old before the summer transfer window closes as he is a cheap option available in an inflated market.
The player is an important player for Florentina as they began their season and will participate in Europa league this season. But a move to Arsenal is a hard one for the defender to ignore as it could provide a new experience to the talented centre-half.
