Indian Super League in its inaugural season has the become the most popular league in the continent, thanks to the big international players the Indian Super League has managed to capture.
In the 6th week of the Indian Super League the goals may have dried up but players have continued to impress by their performances.
Following the end of round 8 in the Indian Super League Sportzwiki picks up the team of the week which includes the top performers of all the eight team in ISL.
(GK)Subrata Pal :
Mumbai City FC goalkeeper has stretched his number to six clean sheets so far and holds the top of the clean sheets table. Pal has shown wonderful performances and has managed to keep away opponents like Goa and Kerala to score past him.
(DF) Youness Bengelloun :
Youness has been important in the defence line up of FC GOA. The 31 year old helped his side to win their first three points and is a commanding figure in the defence. Bengelloun also scored two goals which helped his team to get a massive victory.
(DF) Arnab Mondal:
The centre back who is on loan from East Bengal showed brilliant defence against Chennaiyin FC and managed to stop Mendoza and Elano who were in form and could have changed the game.
(DF) Sandesh Jhingan:
Kerala Blasters defender Jhingan performance against Mumbai City was notable. Versatile defender Sandesh was moving up and down the field with providing passes and blocking when necessary against Mumbai and this is exactly why he is one of the best Indian player in the team.
(DF) Robin Gurung:
The 22 year left back has shown brilliant performance in the Indian Super League so far. Gurung has put in some nice blocks and good defensive skills and the way he stopped Dudu Omagbemi who could have scored towards the end of the match was remarkable.
(MF) Jan Stohanzl:
Jan who plays for Mumbai City FC has created good chances and his efficiency in the midfield is remarkable. His performance against Kerala was also good since he not only took the ball forward but also came in defence when needed.
(MF) Seiminlen Doungal:
The 20 year old has wonderful intercepting skills and has the ability to build up play in midfield which was seen against Pune. He also has good control on the ball and his movement at the right flank was delightful.
(MF) Robert Pires:
Arsenal’s legend Robert Pires is also included in the team of the week after his world class performance against Delhi. The 41 year old Frenchman was the best player on the ground and also scored a goal from the spot against Dynamos.
(MF) Luis Garcia:
The former Liverpool star has been as bright as ever for Atletico De Kolkata so far in the Indian Super League. The Spaniard showed a wonderful play against Chennaiyin FC where he almost scored from the free kick if it didn’t had hit the post and scored the only winning goal by a header against NorthEast United.
(ST) Tolgay Ozbey:
The Australian worked throughout the game against Delhi and had put in a wonderful display in the game. Ozbey also won a penalty and showed hustling performance followed by scoring a goal.
(ST) Mendoza Valencia:
Mendoza in the recent matches has become Chennaiyin FC’s most important player after scoring an equaliser against Pune he helped his side to remain closer in the league table to the former league leaders Atletico De Kolkata. And his recent performance against Pune City was remarkable were he opened up the scoring line by scoring a wonderful goal and helped his team to reach at the top of the Indian Super League points table.
