Inter Milan have rocked both Manchester United and Chelsea by agreeing a €15million Euro deal for Atletico Madrid central defender Joao Miranda, according to the leading Italian media reports.
Sky Italia understands that Atletico Madrid will get close to €15million for the 30-year old central defender. Miranda was courted by several Serie A clubs including AC Milan, but Inter moved ahead in the deal and agreed terms with the Spanish side earlier in the week.
Miranda was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea last season but his release clause of 30million was a major stumbling block for the Premier League giants. However, this year it’s a different story with Miranda’s contract being valid only till 2016.
Another reason for Miranda’s departure is that, Atletico Madrid have also found an able and young replacement for the Brazilian in José María Giménez.
Miranda is currently with his national side Brazil playing in the ongoing Copa America. The experienced central defender was quizzed over the rumors linking him to Inter Milan. Miranda tactically replied by saying that despite all the rumors, he is still under contract with Atletico Madrid.
Miranda said: “Inter are a big club, one of the biggest in Europe, but I can only talk about Atlético, my current club.
“The only reality is that I have one year left on my contract and I’m still part of the squad,”
