FC Pune City take on Chenniyin FC in a battle for top spot in the match 28 of the Indian Super League at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune.

Pune City come into this game on the back of a remarkable win away to Atlético de Kolkata becoming the first team to defeat the current league leaders. The previous two matches of Chenniyin FC both ended in draws and Chennai will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Chenniyin FC are second in the points table with eleven points in six games, Pune City are third with ten points in six games. Atletico de Kolkata sit on top with twelve points in seven games. The winner of this match go to the top spot in points table at the end of first leg.

Pune City will be without Dutch midfielder John Goossens in this match after he injured himself following an aerial clash with his team-mate goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya in their last match.. He scored a last-gasp winner and also created a chance for goal against NorthEast United FC. Dudu Omagbemi has forced himself into the reckoning for a starting place even with the return of David Trezeguet in the team after his performances against NorthEast and Kolkata. Bruno Cirillo has been brilliant in defence for Pune City with an incredible 46 interceptions in the tournament. Pune will be boosted by the availability of former Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant who is expected to play on Tuesday.

Chennaiyin FC player-manager Marco Materazzi admitted that the draw against NorthEast United was two points lost rather than one point gained and said his team was looking to regain lost ground. Mikel Silvestre has been good for Chennaiyin FC conceding just one foul being the last man and allowing defensive partner Bernard Mendy to go forward. But the Chennaiyin defence are yet to keep a clean sheet in the ISL. Brazilian star Elano Blumer has been in top form for Chennaiyin and will be the key player once again having scored eight goals in seven matches.

Manager Quotes:

FC Pune City manager Franco Colombo wants his team to keep winning;

“It will be a good match but not a final though. Chennaiyin have strength and quality and they are fast and also they have quality in players like Elano and experience in players like Materazzi. But we don’t look at players we look at teams and tomorrow it’s Pune versus Chennai,”
“I feel we have a system now and it’s not the same always but there is a pattern now. Every match is difficult and there is still a lot of room for improvement but I am happy though”
“The competition is strenuous and difficult with the way the fixtures are placed but I wish to keep winning in Pune and it is important”

Chennaiyin FC manager Marco Materazzi says that the match is like final for them;

“It is important to achieve the first position in the points table at this point”
“I got him (Elano) he’s my choice and when you have a Brazilian who has played about 50 games for his nation you can expect such quality. Elano is good but we have Bruno and Cristian too”
“They (Pune City) have an Italian defence and an Italian manager so they are bound to be well organized. But we don’t have any special preparations and we’re going to play the same. If you have good attackers like us you have to go out and attack and if you have good defenders you change the tactics accordingly.”
“Tomorrow is important for us, it’s like a final. It’s the same for Pune too So I don’t see the need to rest any players.”
