ISL Team Preview: Delhi Dynamos

  • Ever since the club has announced that Italian legend Alessandro del Piero will be a part of the club, this has been the most talked-about franchises in the ISL. The man who made over 500 appearances for Juventus and over 90 for Italy was announced as the team’s marquee signing by the club in August. He played for Australian A-League side Sydney FC after leaving Juventus in 2012.

Despite interest from elsewhere, Del Piero chose to join the inaugural Indian Super league as Sydney FC brought Spanish International David Villa as his replacement. Dutchman Harm van Veldhoven is the manager of the club. Like Atlético de Kolkata, they have a link to a big European club – in their case Feyenoord.

Delhi Dynamos is a club that relies more on its attackers than its defenders. Theie forward line up led by Del Piero has Mads Junker and Morten Skoubo in it with Steven Dias, who is called India’s David Beckham playing behind the forward line. Even though the defence is weak, Dynamos have a huge advantage in their Goalie Van Hout who measures a height of 6 feet 10 inches. He will stand like a rock in front of the goal and the opposition will find it difficult to put the ball beyond the towering goalie.
