Manchester United’s search for a stable right-back could come to an end but it will only come at a huge price as Serie A side Torino have announced that they will not sell their star defender Matteo Darmian for anything less than a “Crazy Offer”.
Torino president Urbano Cairo was speaking to Tuttosport where he claimed that despite losing their star players in recent times, the Serie A club is well equipped to hold on to their star players.
Urbano said: “We’re in a condition where we can keep hold of our players — we have no problems with the balance sheet.
“If Darmian would like to stay then Torino will never sell him, but if he were to signal a desire to leave and if there were to be a crazy offer for him, we might sell.
“But I’ve not received anything yet.”
Darmian’s rise to Italian football has been well noted by major sides around Europe and Manchester United have been the most keen on signing the right-back from Torino to find a more suitable replacement for the erratic Rafael and inconsistent Antonio Valencia.
Darmian’s biggest strengths are his attacking intelligence and solid defensive positioning. Darmian is rarely seen out of position or mistiming his tackles. Darmian would ideally suit Van Gaal’s philosophies as he has been playing as a right-win-back and as a right-back for his club and country.
Manchester United and Barcelona are monitoring Darmian’s developments at Torino and want to sign the player in Summer. However, both the European giants will have to spend very big if they want to sign the Italian defender as Torino have made it very clear that Darmian will not leave for anything less than a Crazy offer.
