On the second match day of Euro 2016 qualifers in 2015, Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s last minute goal gave the Netherlands a crucial point and saving them from an embarrassing defeat from Turkey. The Dutch had dominated the game in possession and attempts but Turkey drew first blood when the Dutch failed to clear a deep Gokhan Tore ball and Turkey’s talisman Burak Yilmaz smashed the ball from the edge of the box. The Dutch had several chances in the second half but couldn’t cash on them. Finally, during injury time, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s head found a slimy touch from a Wesley Sneijder shot from the edge of the box to give the Dutch a 1-1 draw. The draw left the Dutch on 3rd place in Group A way behind Iceland and Czech Republic. Iceland continued their good run in the qualifiers with a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan putting them in 2nd place and just a point behind Czech Republic who had a below par performance against Latvia at Prague with Vaclav Pilar’s late goal salvaging them a 1-1 draw. Belgium, who also weren’t having a very good run in the qualifiers, thrashed Cyprus 5-0 in the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Belgium took the lead in the 21st minute when Christian Benteke’s header found Marouane Fellaini who shot the ball hard and low in the left hand corner of the net.
